The investment in Grain Field Chickens supported sustainable diversification strategies for producers. It took almost two years to build this modern, world-class abattoir in Reitz in the Eastern Free State. Production commenced in 2012. The total weekly production capacity is 760 000 broilers for Phase 1. It is expected that this number will increase to 1 100 00 broilers per week as soon as implementation of Phase 2 starts. Currently the average weekly consumers’ demand for chicken in South Africa stands on 22 million broilers.
